Born in Lisbon, Nuno Tuna began his career as a graphic designer and illustrator in 1988. Specialising in Identity Design and Illustration, he has collaborated on projects in Portugal, Greece, Malta, Angola, the United States and England.
His work spans a wide range of fields, including sports equipment design, furniture, jewellery, storyboarding, cartooning and graphic design.
He is the co-author, with journalist António Mateus, of Mandela, the Exemplary Rebel (Planeta Editores, 2013). In 2006, he represented Portugal at DesignMai in Berlin with the project One ring, two hundred minds, a jewellery exhibition created by jeweller Sofia Serrano and promoted by AICEP and curated by designer Marco Sousa Santos. He is currently undertaking a degree in Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon.
In his artistic practice, Nuno Tuna draws on transhumanist philosophy and speculative science as a theoretical foundation. He raises questions—directed at himself—about ethics, exploring themes such as Humanity’s relationship with technology, memory and immortality.
From this introspective process emerge abstract works in drawing, painting, sculpture and video, whose interpretation is left open to the viewer’s imagination.
